Faith Outreach

Donor Sabbath is a powerful celebration of life, faith and generosity. It’s a time for faith leaders, donor families, transplant recipients and donation advocates to come together in unity to reflect, give thanks and educate others about the life-saving impact of organ, eye & tissue donation.

Donor Sabbath events can be held any time of year, though they are traditionally celebrated in November. These special gatherings invite congregations of all faiths to embrace the message of hope and healing that donation brings. Transplant recipients, donor families, and supporters come together in unity to honor those who have given the gift of life, support those still waiting, and lift our voices in prayer and purpose.

Whether held in a sanctuary, at a candlelight vigil, or as part of a community gathering, Donor Sabbath events are a powerful reminder that through faith, compassion and generosity, we can all help light the way for others.

You can be part of this meaningful movement by hosting or attending a Donor Sabbath event in your community. Even small acts can spark powerful conversations and change lives.

Here are a few ways to bring the message to your congregation:

✨ Include a message about donation in your church bulletin or weekly announcements

🙏 Share facts with your faith leader and ask them to speak on the importance of giving life

📖 Place registration forms, prayer cards or bookmarks in your gathering space

🕊 Invite a speaker or host a donor registration drive at your place of worship

And always, keep those waiting for a life-saving transplant in your prayers. Because through faith, compassion and the gift of donation; we can bring light, healing and LIFE to others.

Faith and Organ Donation: A Sacred Act of Compassion

In life’s most difficult moments, many families turn to their faith leaders for strength, clarity and guidance especially when facing decisions about organ, eye & tissue donation. During times of loss, the spiritual dimension of life takes on deeper meaning. It’s often then that one heartfelt question emerges: “What does my faith say about donation?”

The answer offers hope. All major religions support donation as a profound act of compassion, healing and service. This affirmation empowers individuals and families to make a decision rooted in faith, guided by love and inspired by purpose. Choosing to become a donor is a sacred and powerful act. If you’re unsure, speak with your faith leader or spiritual advisor. Your yes could one day offer another family the gift of hope, healing and life. Don’t take your organs to heaven—Heaven knows we need them here.

Faith leaders are saving lives in our community!

As faith leaders, we are called to help dispel the myth that organ donation is “against my religion.” We should discuss the importance of giving the gift of LIFE and how easily the decision can be made by saying “yes” when getting your driver’s license or ID card.

With more than 100,000 men, women & children in the U.S. waiting for transplants, we must dispel misconceptions that often prevent individuals from saving lives. When loved ones are not registered as donors, their family members frequently feel guilt regardless of their decision. Sadly, thousands lose their lives each year while waiting for transplants. And organ donation is the greatest act of charity and love you can perform!
